Insulation Services
Attics, walls, basement walls, floors and garage ceilings, plus removal, sound work and thermal imaging. If you're not sure which one fits, start from what you're noticing in the house.
Blown-in attic insulation
Loose-fill insulation blown across the attic floor. Abraham prefers cellulose because air moves through fiberglass more easily.
Sidewall insulation
We dense-pack existing walls from outside, or from inside when we have to, and patch the holes with a filler that won't shrink or crack. It helps in homes of any age, even walls that already have fiberglass batts.
Basement wall insulation
Foam board glued to bare basement walls with the seams taped, or cellulose, batting or blown-in batting in walls that are already framed. Water problems have to be fixed first.
Garage ceiling insulation
A bedroom or bonus room over an attached garage stays cold until the garage ceiling is air sealed and insulated. We do both.
Bathroom floor insulation
Cold bathroom floors are a common job. How Abraham fixes one depends on where the bathroom sits in the house, so he looks before he bids.
Blown-In Batting (BIB)
For new builds and full remodels, while the walls are still open to the studs. Abraham works with remodeling companies more than builders.
Insulation removal and replacement
We vacuum out insulation ruined by animals, water or mold, or pull it out so we can air seal underneath, then blow in new insulation.
Air sealing
Before insulating, we seal the gaps around plumbing vents, flue pipes and wall tops in the attic floor, and over bulkheads and chaseways.
Sound insulation
Blown-in cellulose in interior walls and floors to cut noise between rooms. Rock wool is an option, but Abraham finds cellulose performs just as well.
Thermal imaging inspection
An infrared camera shows missing insulation and air leaks. It needs very hot or very cold weather to get a good read, so it isn't part of every estimate.
Hot rooms, cold floors, noise, old insulation: where to start
| What you're noticing | Where to start |
|---|---|
| Upstairs too hot in summer or cold in winter, furnace and AC running a lot | Blown-in attic insulation, with air sealing first |
| Frost or condensation in the attic | Air sealing |
| Insulation with animal droppings, water stains or mold in it | Insulation removal and replacement |
| Exterior walls cold to the touch, especially in an older house | Sidewall insulation |
| Cold basement walls, or a basement you're getting ready to finish | Basement wall insulation |
| A room over the garage that never matches the rest of the house | Garage ceiling insulation |
| A bathroom floor that's cold underfoot | Bathroom floor insulation |
| Voices or TV carrying between rooms or floors | Sound insulation |
| Walls open to the studs for a remodel or new build | Blown-in batting |
| A cold or hot spot you can't explain | Thermal imaging, in very hot or very cold weather |
Problems that don't fit one row
Plenty of problems span more than one service: attic insulation always starts with air sealing, for example. Describe what's going on in the estimate form or in a text to (515) 868-5400, and Abraham will tell you which service fits, or whether it's something insulation won't fix.
Before you choose a service
Do I need a permit for insulation work?
Abraham hasn't needed permits for insulation work in the towns he serves.
Who hires Insulate Iowa besides homeowners?
Landlords, investors, realtors, home inspectors, businesses, farms and remodelers, along with repeat clients.
What warranty comes with these services?
The material carries a 20-year warranty from Insulate Iowa, written on every invoice. Blown-in insulation settles, and Abraham accounts for that in the installed depth. And if a job doesn't make the improvement you agreed on, he comes back and reworks it at no extra cost.
